Egg Production: 3-4 / wk
Egg Color: light brown
Origin: Sweden
Heritage breed: No

The Swedish Flower Hen is known for its beautiful feather tips, which resemble flowers and are the inspiration for the breed’s name. The Swedish Flower Hen is a landrace breed, meaning it was not engineered by man but instead developed naturally over time in its native environment. As a result, it is an extremely hardy breed and not prone to illnesses that sometimes plague other breeds. It can be traced back to southern Sweden, where an often harsh climate made the Swedish Flower Hen adept at survival. This is a very genetically diverse breed and there is no official standard. You will see a lot of variation from one bird to another, with many different types of combs and assorted colors including black, blue, red, orange and brown. Most varieties have orange or yellow eyes and many also have yellow legs and a yellowish beak. The tip on the feathers is typically white.
